A child can get a 504 plan for anxiety, or ADHD, or other mental health issues if they rise to the level of becoming a disability, as defined under Section 504 of the Rehab Act. And the definition of disability is very different under 504 than under the IDEA. 504 defines a disability as anything that negatively impacts a major life activity. Education, school is a major life activity, and if that anxiety rises to the level of negatively impacting a child's performance in school, or the ability to be educated, then a 504 plan might be very appropriate. Of course, they will conduct an evaluation, decide if the student has a disability, and whether a 504 plan for accommodations is appropriate.
