I think the first thing a parent can do to prepare their child for an evaluation is to manage their own stress about the evaluation themselves. Oftentimes, I find that parents are really anxious about having their child evaluated, and the child will pick up on the parent's anxiety about that. So the first thing a parent can do is to get educated about what the evaluation is, and then also feel confident that they're doing the right thing. You want to prepare your child for the evaluation by letting her know that she's going to be doing some things that are very similar to what she'd be doing in school in some ways, and in some ways will be very different from what she does in school.
