You’re at your favorite restaurant, and you’re super excited because the appetizers have just arrived. You grab your spoon, ready to dive into your soup -- which is when you notice that there’s a hair in it. You have a few different options here: You could send it back to the kitchen. You could pick out the hair and eat the soup anyway. Or maybe… just slurp down the soup, hair and all? As long as it’s a single strand of hair, it probably won’t do you much harm. A whole clump would be a lot more dangerous -- that could form a giant hairball in your stomach and earn you a trip to the hospital. But in your soup, there’s just one, single hair.
